To Audition or Not to Audition
I was having a very interesting conversation the other night with a friend. It seems the church where I attend is looking at starting an audition process before letting people on the worship team.
This raised a very interesting response from my wife who although she can sing quite bluntly stated that she would never consider taking part in a worship team that required her to Audition first. When prompted a little further she elaborated that an Audition process had a number of cons
This raised a very interesting response from my wife who although she can sing quite bluntly stated that she would never consider taking part in a worship team that required her to Audition first. When prompted a little further she elaborated that an Audition process had a number of cons
- intimidating for the person wanting to audition.
- Demoralizing for the person who thought they could sing all their life but then found that this was not the case.
- Puts forward the view the the worship team is focused on perfection and performance rather than God.
These of course are all very interesting and valid points, I did however have a response of my own that simply being that the Audition process could offer a lot of benefits as long as the people facilitating it were doing so with the right heart. Obviously it would not be run like Australian Idol, but there would be a certain level of "confronting" responses that people may be un-happy with. Of course the pro's of such a process are
- Increased quality of worship music
- Ability to determine why people want to be on the Worship team.
so now I throw it out to the great wide web what are your thoughts experiences with this concept within the church? Does it work? Does the focus change?
post away !
